Stephen has devised a program and a curriculum for flute players that focuses on building an inspiring and active environment that encourages all students to be passionate, hard working, ambitious and employable professionals that are also able to have fun and enjoy all the benefits and joys of being a skilled and knowledgeable musician. With great ensemble and performance opportunities, NSU is a great place to study in a beautiful location. Please contact Stephen to discuss auditions, scholarship opportunities and enrolment to the NSU flute program.

Masterclasses

Stephen gives masterclasses and workshops regularly throughout the world at music colleges, universities, festivals and organisations. Often these are paired with a recital. If you would like to discuss possibilities in arranging such an event please use the contact page.

Private Lessons

Stephen has a very small private teaching studio that he teaches in Manchester, UK. He also has a small studio in Northern Ireland that he teaches once per month. Although teaching mostly advanced students, Stephen is always delighted to help students of all ages and abilities from those just at the start of their flute playing journey right through to professional flute players seeking an extra opinion, preparing for auditions or looking for help with unfamiliar repertoire etc. Stephen has had students win places at all the music colleges in the UK and also many have won places in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and been prizewinners at International Competitions. Lessons are 1 hour long, very relaxed and completely non-competitive. Stephen’s entire aim as a teacher is to help students make progress. Stephen is also happy to give private lessons in other cities of the world if he is travelling there and his schedule allows it.

If you are interested in booking a lesson please contact Stephen using the contact page where he will be happy to discuss your needs and availability.

Online Lessons

Stephen has several students around the globe who take online flute lessons with him. He is also a featured flute teacher on Play with A Pro. All that is required is a good internet connection and a smartphone with a camera or laptop with a camera. Although different in some ways to an “in person” lesson, many students are finding this incredibly useful and practical. If you are interested in taking an online flute lesson with Stephen please use the contact form on this website or alternatively you can use playwithapro.com

Stephen has been one of the most inspirational and influencial teachers I have ever had. He is very professional, informative, dedicated and very friendly in his teachings. I’m grateful for all his lessons, support and encouragement in helping me gain the principal flute chair with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music
— Ross, private student, UK
I followed Stephen on Instagram for quite a while, had downloaded (& loved) his album. We had spoken a couple of times when a project I had coming up seemed perfect for his input. We had a couple of Skype lessons. He was hugely sympathetic, both of my technical difficulties and my many neuroses. He’s immensely intuitive and clearly expresses what he’s thinking. I felt completely at ease working with him and only wish we could have had more time!
